Encouraging evidence-based decision making

Auburn City is an established metropolitan area in Sydney's western suburbs. It includes the suburbs of Auburn, Berala, Homebush Bay, Lidcombe, Newington, Regents Park (part), Rookwood and Silverwater.

The council has an online community profile (profile.id), social atlas (atlas.id) and population forecasts (forecast.id)

Auburn City Council is using the online delivery of these information resources to change the culture of decision making in council and the community.

They have established a research mentoring project in partnership with the local TAFE, which teaches students how to use demographic information in research work.

The Council also empowers NGOs and community groups with demographic information by inviting their staff to attend profile.id training sessions and requiring them to use demographic evidence to support their funding submissions to Council.
