Identifying at risk groups

Pittwater Council area is located on Sydney's northern beaches and includes the suburbs and localities of Avalon, Bayview, Bilgola, Church Point, Coasters Retreat, Elanora Heights, Elvina Bay, Great Mackerel Beach, Ingleside (part), Mona Vale, Morning Bay, Newport, North Narrabeen, Palm Beach, Scotland Island, Taylors Point, Towlers Bay, Warriewood and Whale Beach.

The Council has an online community profile (profile.id) and social atlas (atlas.id) and makes them available to the community via their website.

When the NSW State Government proposed the relocation of Mona Vale Public Hospital, Pittwater Council undertook a impact assessment study to identify any groups who would be adversely affected.

By using the thematic maps provide in atlas.id, they were able to identify older lone person households who did not have access to a car or public transport, and highlight them as a group that required special attention.

The presentation of the information in thematic maps is very powerful, enabling Council to present the case in a compelling way and advocate on behalf of this section of their community.
