Privacy Policy for Living in Place Survey
- Introduction
.id Consulting Pty Ltd ACN 084 054 473 (“.id, we or our”) understands the importance of protecting an individual’s rights to privacy. This Privacy Policy applies to our .id Living in Place service. It explains how we handle, use and protect the privacy of personal information obtained in association with our .id Living in Place service.
- A bit about the .id Living in Place service
Councils engage .id to provide the .id Living in Place service. The information .id collects for use in the .id Living in Place service comprises “personal views” about a person’s own “liveability” conditions, particularly in relation to the local area in which they live. “Personal views” obtained through surveyed populations make up .id’s Living in Place database, which comprises de-identified aggregated information.
.id’s Living in Place service provides .id’s Council clients and other permitted recipients with a meaningful understanding about the lived experience of the residents across the surveyed local government area. Outputs from the service are based on an independent, robust and repeatable community survey that seeks to understand and advance the liveability of Australians in their local areas.
- Information collection and use
Data used in the .id Living in Place service is collected using an online survey tool. Through social media advertising, interested people are invited to participate in .id’s Living in Place survey. The survey tool currently used by .id is Survey Monkey®. Through the Survey Monkey® tool, a participant is asked to provide answers to a series of questions tapping into how they feel and think about the local area in which they live including what’s going well in your local area and what needs to improve. We’ll also ask you a couple of questions about your health and how you feel about your personal financial circumstances. All this information is provided by participants on an anonymous basis. Collectively with similar local survey data, your contribution is enormously helpful to your Council understanding the feelings and needs of your local community.

With the exception of Opt-in Participants [described below], .id does not collect personal information for use in the .id Living in Place service.
When participants have completed their survey they are given a choice whether or not to provide their contact details – first name, contact email address and phone number. Contact details are kept separate from survey results, which remain anonymous. Participants can choose to provide their contact details and opt-in to be considered for future follow up conversations conducted by .id staff, so that .id on behalf of their Council client can better understand each consenting participant’s views about their experiences of living in their local area. These conversations may take place online or over the telephone. Opt-in Participants are paid for participating in these helpful conversations and thanked for their contribution. Responses obtained through these conversations is aggregated, de-identified and used anonymously with other .id Living in Place data. Contact details are stored on the Survey Monkey® platform in .id’s secure account will be deleted within 2 years of the contact information being last utilised.
All personal information collected from Opt-in Participants is kept secure in accordance with .id’s security commitment outlined below.
- Disclosure of personal information
We do not to use or share any personal information collected in association with our Living in Place service except as described in this policy. Personal information obtained from our Opt-in Participants is only used as described in clause 3 above and is not otherwise used for direct marketing purposes.
.id support personnel, on a needs-only basis, may access the contact details of Opt-in Participants for use only as described in clause 3 above. .id support personnel are all bound by privacy obligations and obligations of confidentiality in relation to the protection of each Opt-in Participant’s contact details.
The only exception to this may be where .id has a legal or regulatory obligation to disclose the Opt-in Participant’s contact details – for example, to protect the legal rights, property, or safety of .id or others.
- Data security
Personal Information of Opt-in Participants is only stored on .id’s online survey tool, which is currently the well-known Survey Monkey®. The Survey Monkey® Privacy Policy describes how data generated and stored on the Survey Monkey platform is kept secure. Please read details of data security here.
- Cookies
Cookies and other similar technologies are used on the Living in Place online survey tool, currently the Survey Monkey® platform. Survey Monkey® uses cookies to improve the user experience. - Status of this policy
Participation in an .id Living in Place survey constitutes acceptance of the terms of this privacy policy, as revised from time to time. Technologies and information governance practices are constantly being developed. We may therefore need to revise this privacy policy in future. You may request and obtain from .id’s privacy officer at any time a copy of our most recent .id Living in Place privacy policy.
- Accessing, Updating & Removing Personal Information
An individual may lodge a request with our privacy officer to access, update or remove their contact details from .id’s online survey tool provider. Such request will be processed within a reasonable timeframe.
- Privacy Enquiries or Complaints
If you have any questions about this privacy policy or our privacy practices you may contact us directly. All privacy complaints should be directed to our privacy officer. A privacy complaint relates to any concern or dispute that an individual has with our privacy practices as it relates to that person’s personal information. At all times, privacy complaints will be treated seriously, dealt with promptly, and in a confidential manner. A person unsatisfied with the outcome of their complaint, may refer their complaint to the Australian Privacy Commissioner on 1300 363 992 or email enquiries@oaic.gov.au.
