About the Brisbane - West Region

The Brisbane - West Region is forecast to account for a modest 1.6% of the total population growth of Queensland between 2021 and 2046.

The Brisbane - West region is an area geographically west of the Brisbane city centre, and falls entirely contained within the Brisbane City Council area.

The area is a mix of urban, outer urban  and public parks, including the inner city suburb of Indroopilly and the main campus of the University of Queenslandat St Lucia. The bushland and parks of Mt Coot-tha and the Enoggera reserviour form a large and lowly populated part of the region dedicated to recreation and water storage.

Key findings

Brisbane - West

Over the forecast period the Brisbane - West SA4 population will grow from around 190,000 in 2021 to around 225,600 people in 2046 (an increase of 17% to the 2021 population),  approximately 34,000 more people. This represents an average annual growth rate of 0.6%.

Growth is predominantly focused around densification in Indroopilly which is forecast to grow by ~11,000 people (2.6% pa). Small pockets of greenfields land in Upper Kedron and Keperra are expected to be largely completed in the near future, with no other notable developments of that type expected.

At the other end of the scale, many areas of the region are expected to essentially retain approximately the same number (or a slight decline) of residents.
