Maribyrnong City Council engaged .id to develop a profile of the local economy with a particular emphasis on analysing workforce and employed resident trends, especially the change from being a net job provider to being more a place of residence for inner city employees. The objective was to create a clear story about the region and its economy that articulates the transition occurring and helps future planning.

Our Method

Our approach involved delivering analysis in two ways.

The first involved an economic slide deck that provided a concise overview of trends related to jobs and resident labour force outcomes in Maribyrnong. We used charts, mapping and case studies to highlight workforce patterns and how different locations within the region have changed over time.

The second step incorporated developing a more comprehensive profile that explores other aspects of the economy (e.g. industry value added analysis, impact of macro forces) and builds a story of economic change that can be communicated to a wider audience.

Results

Maribyrnong now has a clear understanding of how gentrification and industry transition has influenced the changing role of the region over the last two decades. The economic profile is also being used to inform economic development strategies and discussions with State Government regarding key land assets in the Council.
